Revisions to Stagecoach bus services in specific areas of Kent are scheduled to take effect on Sunday. The majority of services operating within the Dover, Folkestone, and Romney Marsh regions will adopt updated timetables, with certain routes undergoing modifications. Additionally, several new routes are being launched. According to Stagecoach, these alterations are intended to enhance reliability and punctuality, bolster service dependability, and “create new connections.” Conversely, certain streets will no longer be served by existing routes, and the early morning 19 bus service from Swingfield to Folkestone is being entirely discontinued because of insufficient passenger demand. Rebecca Sawbridge, representing both Dover Town Council and Save Our Buses, stated that buses serve as a “last resort for the poor and the elderly.” She further commented, “We need a generally a better bus service after repeated cuts over the years.” She added, “We’re simply going to have more cars on the road as a result of these changes.” A novel “Fastrack” service is set to connect Whitfield with Dover Priory Railway Station. Concurrently, Stagecoach’s 102 coastal service, which previously linked Dover, Folkestone, and Romney Marsh, will be restructured into four distinct, extended routes. Specifically, the 102 route will operate between Lydd and Folkestone Harbour; the newly introduced 103 will connect Lydd-on-Sea and Folkestone Harbour; the new 104 will travel between Hythe and Dover; and the new 105 will link Folkestone Bus Station and Dover. The Fastrack services are scheduled to depart every 20 minutes from Monday through Saturday, and hourly on Sundays. Stagecoach indicated that the overlapping nature of these service routes was intentionally planned to deliver increased service frequency in areas with the highest demand. Furthermore, a new route, the 65, will operate between Aycliffe and Dover town centre, taking over a segment of the existing 64 service. Commuters are advised to consult the Stagecoach South East website for comprehensive information regarding these modifications.
