PC Lucinda Niemz, a student police officer with Staffordshire Police, has received a force award for saving a man’s life and apprehending an armed individual. She was presented with the “Student Officer of the Year” award at a ceremony held at the National Memorial Arboretum in Lichfield. The force recognized her for demonstrating a “high standard of investigation and care” following a serious car crash that left a man injured, and for her courageous actions in pursuing and detaining a suspect armed with two zombie knives and a knuckle duster. PC Niemz commented, “I feel grateful to have been nominated and delighted to go on to win this award.” Staffordshire Police stated that she had already displayed “a number of exceptional skills, across a number of challenging incidents.” A colleague commended her ability to remain “cool, calm and collected” during a high-pressure and emotionally charged situation, adding that she can “strike the perfect balance between professionalism and empathy.” PC Niemz expressed that she collaborated with “a fantastic team of individuals” and conveyed her gratitude for their assistance since she began her tenure.
