A proposal involving the relocation of a rugby clubhouse and its training pitch to accommodate a 120-new-home development in St Ives has received official approval. This development is slated to comprise 50 new residential properties and 70 care units, all designated as affordable housing. The Cornwall Council’s Strategic Planning Committee unanimously endorsed the plan during its meeting held on Thursday. St Ives Town Council stated that the application “ticked all boxes” for contributing to the provision of 120 homes within the town and safeguarding the rugby club’s future, further characterizing it as a “nice Christmas present”. The National Landscape Office had previously raised objections to the proposed development due to its location within a designated area of exceptional natural beauty. During the meeting on Thursday, the rugby club expressed that the plan would contribute to securing its future by providing upgraded facilities. The new clubhouse is planned for construction to the west of the main pitch, with the new training pitch situated to its west. The social care units and residential homes are designated for construction on the western section of the current training pitch.
