A specialized police marine team is expected to reach Orkney to aid in the search for a diver reported missing last week. The individual, a commercial scallop diver operating from the islands, was reported missing after working in the Scapa Flow area shortly after 2:30 PM on Wednesday. Helicopters were deployed as part of the extensive land, air, and sea search operation. Coastguard personnel have maintained their search of the location, known for its popularity among divers, and Police Scotland’s marine and dive unit is scheduled to arrive subsequently. Prior to police assuming control of the operation, two coastguard helicopters, along with rescue crews and lifeboats, had thoroughly searched the vicinity. Tugs belonging to Orkney Islands Council also participated in the effort. On Sunday, coastguard units resumed their search, aided by lifeboats, focusing their efforts on the coastal areas surrounding Scapa Flow. The identity of the missing individual has not yet been officially released.
