Spalding’s festive lights are scheduled to be activated on Friday during the town’s Christmas Celebration event. South Holland District Council and the Spalding Town Board have invested £70,000 in new illuminations for this year’s display. The town centre celebration, taking place between 17:00 and 21:00 GMT, will feature live entertainment, vintage fair rides, gift and food stalls, and a fancy dress competition. Many local shops are expected to remain open late into the evening. Activities planned include opportunities to meet Buddy the Elf, festive Tinkerbell, and Olaf, alongside a vintage swingboat ride. Street entertainment will be provided by members of the cast from this year’s South Holland Centre pantomime, “Snow White.” The main stage will host live performances from choirs, brass bands, singers, and dancers. A fancy dress competition is set to occur on the stage at 19:00, with the winner earning the privilege of turning on the Christmas lights. The new decorations encompass column displays, a star topper for the Christmas tree, and 1,050ft (approximately 320m) of icicle lights. For the safety of attendees, Market Place and Hall Place will be closed to vehicle traffic from 12:00 to 22:00.
