A railway company has initiated the application process for the newest cycle of its Customer and Communities Improvement Fund (CCIF). South Western Railway (SWR), which manages train services across southern England, stated that the CCIF initiative aims to foster community advantages or tackle specific social requirements. The operational area of the SWR network encompasses Surrey, Berkshire, Devon, Dorset, Greater London, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Somerset, and Wiltshire. During 2024, a total of £400,000 was allocated to 15 distinct projects throughout the SWR service region. These initiatives included diverse efforts, such as funding an outreach worker to assist vulnerable young individuals near stations in the Southampton vicinity, and providing cycle repair instruction in Hounslow. Peter Williams, SWR’s customer and commercial director, commented: “Supporting the many local communities we serve is a priority for South Western Railway, and we look forward to receiving applications for projects that can bring them real benefit.” The railway operator specified that the criteria for a successful submission involve addressing a community or social requirement, clearly demonstrating advantages, feasibility within specified costs and timelines, consistency with its charitable contributions policy, and relevance to the railway. Since its inception in 2018, the fund has distributed over £7 million in grants to more than 100 projects. Submissions for applications are open until December 31st and can be made via the SWR CCIF website. For updates, follow BBC Surrey on Facebook and X.
