Car parking fees in three towns could see an increase for the first time in eight years. Following a comprehensive charging review across 17 car parks under its ownership, South Norfolk Council announced it would hold a vote on raising prices in Diss, Loddon, and Wymondham during a cabinet meeting scheduled for Monday. The Local Democracy Reporting Service reported that these charges have been frozen since 2016, but the proposed modifications aim to “make the tariff structure easier to understand.” According to the plans, the initial hour of parking would be free, and the cost for a full day’s parking would rise from £4 to £5. If approved, these changes could be implemented by autumn next year. Under the same proposals, parking at sites in Harleston and Long Stratton would remain free, as their operations are separate. The proposed changes were initially slated for consideration at a meeting in January but were subsequently withdrawn and amended. Council officials indicated that introducing charges is intended to help discourage the obstructive use of parking spaces.
