Passengers traveling on the south coast experienced delays and cancellations on certain train services on Tuesday, Christmas Eve. South Western Railway (SWR) reported that an issue with platform infrastructure at Portsmouth and Southsea station led to the cancellation, delay, or revision of several services. By 18:00 BST, SWR announced that train operations had returned to their regular schedule. The rail operator also stated that individuals experiencing delays exceeding 15 minutes might be eligible to seek compensation. Alternative rail connections remained operational between Fratton and Portsmouth and Southsea, utilizing different tracks. Additionally, SWR services bound for Southampton Central commenced their journeys from Fratton. Passengers at Portsmouth Harbour or Portsmouth and Southsea requiring trains destined for Haslemere and Guildford were instructed to board these services at Fratton. Earlier, SWR had announced that valid tickets would be honored on Great Western Railway services operating between Southampton Central and Portsmouth Harbour throughout the period of service interruption. Furthermore, Southern services running between Havant and Portsmouth Harbour, in both directions, were also accepting valid SWR tickets.
