Photographers across Somerset have documented a variety of local events and scenes, including festive tractor displays, historical re-enactments, Christmas services, and circus performances. A compilation of this week’s notable photographs is presented here. The inaugural Christmas tractor run organized by the Wells and Glastonbury Young Farmers Club successfully generated over £2,100. A total of 120 tractors, each decorated for Christmas, participated in the procession. The funds collected are designated for the Teenage Cancer Trust. Simon Plant, a photographer, featured Legion of the Stag, an Ilminster-based battle re-enactment group, in his ongoing project titled Life in a Somerset Landscape. This group focuses on historical re-enactments from the 12th to 14th centuries, with performances at festivals, educational institutions, and on television. The annual Christmas carol service hosted by the Somerset Freemasons occurred on Wednesday evening at Wells Cathedral. Circus Funtasia is presenting its array of daring and entertaining acts to audiences in Burnham-on-Sea for the duration of the festive season. Trainee rope rescue operators from Avon and Somerset Search and Rescue underwent training exercises at Cheddar Gorge. This mountain rescue team, active in the region since 1975, collaborates with the police, ambulance service, fire service, and cave rescue organizations. At Wincanton Racecourse on Tuesday, the horse Another Folly, with jockey Ciaran Gethings, competed in the Handicap Chase, securing second place behind the winning horse, King Arise. A tree-lined rural lane, still displaying remnants of autumn, was illuminated by the beautiful late afternoon light. Additionally, Josie Elias photographed a striking double rainbow spanning the stormy skies over Somerset. Carl Bovis also documented a spectacular murmuration of starlings at sunset at the RSPB Ham Wall reserve near Glastonbury. This natural phenomenon is characterized by the sound produced by the numerous flapping wings of a flock of starlings in flight. For updates, follow BBC Somerset on Facebook and X.
