Leicestershire and Rutland experienced snowfall as the season’s initial cold spell arrived. On Tuesday, BBC Weather Watchers from both counties endured the cold conditions to photograph the snow-covered landscapes. Activities included building snowmen and dog owners taking their pets for walks in the wintery conditions. East Midlands Airport, located in Castle Donington, confirmed it remained operational and its runway was free of snow. However, the airport cautioned about potential delays as aircraft underwent de-icing procedures. An amber cold weather alert has been issued by the UK Health Security Agency, covering several regions, among them the East Midlands. Leicestershire County Council announced that its gritters were “standing by to make road surfaces safer” in anticipation of temperatures falling again later in the evening.
