The Met Office has issued an updated weather alert for Wales, forecasting snow and ice from 12:00 GMT on Thursday until 10:00 on Friday. Educational institutions in Denbighshire, Conwy, and Wrexham remained closed on Thursday, marking the third consecutive day of disruptions to schooling and travel caused by sub-zero temperatures. According to the forecaster, certain roads and railway lines were expected to experience impacts, leading to extended travel durations for motorists, bus passengers, and train commuters. The primary cause of these closures is ice, and several schools in Conwy indicated their intention to reassess the circumstances over the course of the day. Monday marked the initial snowfall of the season for Wales, which led to widespread disruptions for both rail and road networks throughout the country. A total of four weather warnings are currently active across the UK, comprising three for snow and ice and one specifically for ice. Meteorologists have advised the public to exercise ongoing caution during travel. The Met Office also stated that cold northerly winds are projected to persist across a significant portion of the UK until the week’s end. As the weekend approaches, the frigid air mass is anticipated to give way to gentler south-westerly winds, bringing with them the possibility of wet and extremely blustery conditions.
