Six individuals were apprehended after law enforcement discovered gin valued at over £50,000 inside a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV). This group included two men who were found concealed in a haystack, having allegedly jumped from the lorry’s cab and run across fields. North Yorkshire Police received a call at 00:40 GMT concerning a break-in at a business situated near Barton-Le-Willows. Officers subsequently pursued the HGV and a car along the A64, concluding the chase in Askham Bryan, an area west of York. The police force reported that two people in their 20s, three in their 30s, and one in his 50s, all originating from West Yorkshire, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and remain in custody. Following the pursuit, the car was successfully stopped, and its four occupants were detained. Officers attempted to halt the HGV, but the driver and a passenger reportedly exited the cab while the vehicle was still in motion and fled on foot. Police confirmed that the truck came to a stop “naturally” in the road and did not cause any damage to other vehicles. A police dog tracked the two fleeing individuals for approximately 4.3 miles (7km) across muddy fields and woodland. Subsequently, two men matching their description were located in the haystack.
