A single mother of two, who chose to participate in Miss Africa GB, has expressed her “delight” at being awarded the Miss Amiable title. Sarah Sakala, from Tilehurst, Berkshire, who operates Sakala Cleaning Services, stated that her reason for entering the competition was to inspire women to pursue their aspirations. The judges determined that she presented herself in a positive and inspirational manner, leading to her receiving the Miss Amiable title. She described it as “a fantastic experience” to represent Reading at the Miss Africa GB event, which took place in Bromley, Kent. Ms. Sakala, who moved to England from Zambia at the age of 14, mentioned that she had “always loved watching pageants and imagined what it would be like to join one”. “I’m so glad I was brave and went for it,” she said. She also noted that pageantry is more intricate than people often perceive, and the “whole process” provided her with significant learning. “You have to have a great mindset as well as intelligence,” she stated. Ms. Sakala shared that despite feeling nervous competing against hundreds of women, she decided to simply be herself. She remarked: “Just to be involved was special, but to win one of the awards made it even memorable.” Following the pageant, Ms. Sakala immediately returned to managing her cleaning business, but expressed her desire to utilize her experience from the Miss Africa GB pageant to assist other women. “One of my main aims was to send out a message to women of all ages that they can do remarkable things if they put their mind to it,” she articulated. “I am immensely grateful to have been able to represent Reading and to come back with more drive and perseverance to continue making a change in my home town.” For updates, BBC Berkshire can be followed on Facebook, X (Twitter), or Instagram.
