Management for a Nottinghamshire shopping centre has expressed a forward-looking perspective, despite an auction not securing a new purchaser. Idlewells, located in Sutton-in-Ashfield, was scheduled for auction on December 12. However, Davlea Estates, the site managers, reported that no bids met the stipulated minimum offer. David Deisner, a director at the company, noted a recent surge in interest for the property. This includes a newly signed five-year lease with Boots and the addition of new tenants, both contributing to an increase in the centre’s valuation. Mr. Deisner stated that the company is actively seeking new leaseholders and is inviting proposals from the public regarding the utilization of a former basement car park within the premises. “The landlords are quite happy it didn’t sell in the end, because there’s so much good stuff coming out of the shopping centre,” he said. “They’ve decided now to focus on the opportunities and see what they can do with it.” Idlewells originally commenced operations in November 1971 as an open-air market. Currently, it encompasses 150,000 sq ft and houses 40 shops, a cafe, three kiosks, and a multi-storey car park. While the property was anticipated to fetch between £3.25m and £3.5m at the auction, Mr. Deisner indicated its current valuation stands at a minimum of £3.8m. “There’s a lot that’s going to happen there in the next 12 months,” he said. “We’re [also] looking for ideas from the locals about what they want to see.”
