A retail complex is commemorating its half-century milestone by hosting a photographic exhibition showcasing images spanning its entire history. Weston Favell Shopping Centre, established in Northampton in 1974, has revealed a series of portraits, provided by local community organizations and residents, as part of its commemorative events. This display chronicles decades of recollections and incorporates accompanying audio segments, compiled by local artist Subika Anwar-Khan. According to Ms Anwar-Khan, individuals were “expressive” regarding their experiences at the centre, which draws approximately seven million annual visitors. Weston Favell underwent refurbishment in 2002, which included an expansion to its southern side. The complex received a £4m renovation in October 2014, coinciding with its 40th anniversary. The facility currently houses over 60 high street and independent retail outlets and eateries, and recently disclosed plans to launch a bouldering centre. Ms Anwar-Khan shared: “My earliest memory of the centre was when I was about five, going to Tesco with my dad, seeing so many different things in one place.” Additionally, the local theatre group Silhouette Youth Theatre and a distinct photography exhibition were included in the celebratory events.
