A former bakery establishment in Sheffield is slated for conversion into residential flats, following the approval of development plans despite certain objections. The two-storey structure, situated at the intersection of Howard Road and Cromwell Street in Walkley, will be redeveloped into one-bedroom apartments. The business known as The Bakers Shop operated at this location for a decade before its closure last November, prompted by the owner’s retirement. Several local residents had previously voiced concerns regarding these proposals, primarily citing existing parking difficulties in the vicinity and expressing apprehension that additional residences would exacerbate the problem. Councillors received information indicating that the developer’s proposal involved creating four one-bedroom flats within the building, ranging in size from 430-1,119 sq ft (40-104 sq m), as reported by the Local Democracy Reporting Service. Entry to the property would be facilitated by two separate doorways, both opening onto Howard Road. An additional point of entry was situated at the rear of the building, accessible via an alleyway, which also provided access to the back gardens of the adjacent properties, according to planners.
