Vinicius Souza became a member of Sheffield United in August 2023, having transferred from the Belgian club Lommel. Sheffield United, known as the Blades, is allowing midfielder Vinicius Souza the maximum possible time to demonstrate his readiness for Saturday’s Championship fixture against Plymouth Argyle. The Brazilian has participated in 19 league matches this season, starting each one, but sustained a hamstring injury that led to his early departure in the second half of Wednesday’s victorious game at Millwall. Chris Wilder, the Blades’ manager, informed BBC Radio Sheffield, “We’ll give Vini as long as we can.” Wilder further explained, “He had an issue in the Sunderland game but got through that and the West Brom game but we said if it needed to be flagged up by Vini he would and he has.” Souza has been absent for only one league fixture for Sheffield United this campaign, and despite acknowledging his crucial role in the team, Wilder stated he would avoid any unnecessary risks. The manager elaborated on his cautious approach: “I’ve spoken to our doctor who has a background at two Olympics and he talked about professional athletes not always being 100% but having to get out there, but we’re not going to risk him and then it puts him out for four to six weeks – we’re not that reckless.” He concluded, “If we have to protect him we’ll protect him but he wanted to get out there on Sunday and Wednesday so the attitude of the player is spot on but we’ll make a sensible decision.”
