A bowls club has been granted £75,000 by its local authority, Sevenoaks District Council, specifically for the purpose of investing in solar panels. Sevenoaks Bowls Club anticipates that these panels will result in annual energy bill savings exceeding £24,000. These savings are expected to enable the club to allocate resources to additional community initiatives and achieve an annual reduction of 33 tonnes in carbon dioxide emissions. The allocated funds originate from the council’s Community Infrastructure Levy, a charge imposed on home builders for new developments within the district. Additionally, the project has secured an extra £20,000 through the West Kent Rural Grant scheme. Further financial contributions have come from Sevenoaks Town Council and various other organisations, supplemented by the club’s own fundraising activities. Julia Thornton, the cabinet member for development at Sevenoaks District Council, stated: “We are committed to supporting the district to reduce its carbon footprint, as well as projects that support the health and wellbeing of our residents.“We are delighted to be able to provide this substantial grant to Sevenoaks Indoor Bowls Club to reduce its carbon footprint and energy running costs.”
