Among the nominees for the 2024 Fifpro men’s team of the year are seven players from Manchester City, including Erling Haaland and Phil Foden. In total, 11 Premier League stars received nominations for the award. Real Madrid received more nominations than any other club, with eight players selected, a list that features France forward Kylian Mbappe, who transferred to the Spanish club from Paris Saint-Germain during the summer. The seven Manchester City players nominated are goalkeeper Ederson, defenders Ruben Dias and Kyle Walker, midfielders Rodri, Kevin de Bruyne, and Phil Foden, and striker Erling Haaland. The women’s World 11 shortlist comprises 26 players, with nine England Lionesses among them. Four players from Women’s Super League champions Chelsea have been nominated: forward Lauren James and defenders Millie Bright, Lucy Bronze, and Jess Carter, the latter of whom now plays for American club NJ/NY Gotham FC. Additional England women’s internationals on the list include goalkeeper Mary Earps, defender Alex Greenwood, midfielders Ella Toone and Keira Walsh, and forward Alessia Russo. Also nominated are Spain and Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati, who secured the women’s Ballon d’Or for the second consecutive year in October, and Zambia and Orlando Pride striker Barbra Banda, the BBC Women’s Footballer of the Year 2024. England forward Cole Palmer has received his first nomination, recognized as both a Manchester City and Chelsea player after his transfer from Etihad Stadium to Stamford Bridge in August 2023. Other England internationals featured on the men’s 26-player shortlist are Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane and Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham. Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is also among the selections, however, Liverpool and Egypt winger Mohamed Salah was not included. Argentina and Inter Miami forward Lionel Messi, along with Al Nassr’s Portugal striker Cristiano Ronaldo, are the sole two players from the 26-person list who compete outside of Europe. Messi’s 18th nomination further solidifies his record as the most-nominated player in history, with Ronaldo trailing closely with 16 nominations. Professional footballers exclusively cast votes for the Fifpro World 11 award. According to global players’ union Fifpro, more than 21,000 men’s players from 70 countries participated in the voting process, alongside over 7,000 women’s footballers.
