Two individuals have received sentences for the unlawful hunting of deer with a dog. Richard Bostock and Dani Simpson previously entered guilty pleas at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court to charges under the hunting act. This action followed a police investigation into reports of a deer being pursued and killed on April 19 at Hanby, near Grantham. Both men were issued a seven-year criminal behaviour order, which includes a prohibition on them entering any East Midlands county with a dog. The court also mandated the confiscation of property, specifically a lamp and a dog. Bostock, 41, of Colwyn Street in Marsh, Huddersfield, was ordered to pay £85 in court costs and a victim surcharge of £96. Simpson, 34, of Wellfield Bank in Crossland Moor, Huddersfield, was instructed to pay £85 for costs and a victim surcharge of £114. He also received a community order, which combines rehabilitation and community service as an alternative to a prison sentence. Lincolnshire Police stated that, “With a few exemptions, using dogs to hunt wild mammals, such as foxes, rats and rabbits, is illegal,”.
