Singer and actress Selena Gomez has announced her engagement to songwriter Benny Blanco. She shared an image of a prominent engagement ring on Instagram, accompanied by the caption “forever begins now”. This announcement follows the couple’s confirmation of their relationship last year. Among the notable personalities extending congratulations was pop star Taylor Swift. Gomez, a two-time Grammy nominee, subsequently uploaded additional photographs showing her smiling while wearing the ring, and another depicting Blanco embracing her in what seemed to be a closet. Blanco commented on the post, stating: “Hey wait… that’s my wife.” Swift responded: “Yes I will be the flower girl.” Rapper Cardi B, actresses Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, and Suki Waterhouse, along with singer Lil Nas X, also conveyed their good wishes. Furthermore, in an Instagram Story shared with her 423 million followers, the most-followed woman on the platform displayed a video of her ring to family and friends via phone. Her voice can be heard saying, “Yes to this,” which elicited screams from the recipients on the video call. Prior to making their relationship public, Gomez and record producer Blanco had collaborated on the tracks I Can’t Get Enough in 2019 and Single Soon in 2023. Blanco, whose production credits include artists such as Rihanna, Calvin Harris, and Justin Bieber, expressed his profound affection on the Drew Barrymore Show in May. On the talk show, he stated: “She’s just like the best, most genuine person. Everything is completely real. Everyday when I wake up, I, like, walk by the mirror as I’m, like, walking to her and I ask myself, ‘How did I get here’… She’s one of the sweetest, one of the most charming, one of the most humble people I’ve ever met.” Gomez, known for her song Come & Get It, previously had a high-profile, intermittent relationship with fellow singer Justin Bieber. She also dated singer The Weeknd in 2017. The Texas-born celebrity gained recognition as a child actress on Barney and the Disney Channel, subsequently establishing a career in both singing and acting. According to Bloomberg, this year she was included on the billionaire celebrity rich list, having accumulated a fortune of $1.3bn (£1bn), primarily from her Rare Beauty make-up company. On Monday, she earned two Golden Globe nominations: one for best supporting actress for her performance in the operatic musical Emilia Pérez, and another for best actress in a TV series, musical or comedy, for her recurring part in Only Murders in the Building.
