Multiple sections of a significant road in Devon are scheduled to reopen following the conclusion of upgrade works. According to Devon County Council, portions of the A361 North Devon Link Road will become accessible to traffic on Monday, specifically between the Portmore roundabout in Barnstaple and Yarnacott. The council further stated that the segments connecting the Portmore and Landkey roundabouts, alongside modifications to a newly constructed pedestrian and cycling bridge, are slated for opening. The authority also indicated that additional sections of the road, which has been undergoing construction as part of an improvement initiative spanning from Barnstaple to South Molton since February 2021, are expected to progressively reopen over the subsequent weeks. The council reported that the work conducted between Portmore and Landkey included road resurfacing and the establishment of a central hatched zone designed to deter overtaking. The authority further noted that the supplementary work at Landkey involved replacing a T-junction, adding a fourth exit to the roundabout, and constructing the new bridge to facilitate access to the proposed Westacott development. The council mentioned that the project was initially scheduled for completion by the end of 2023; however, the finish time was postponed due to delays stemming from the Coronavirus pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and the impact of rising interest rates on supply chains. A council spokesperson added, “After all new sections of the road have opened to traffic, landscaping and some minor work will continue.”
