Festive light installations are scheduled for activation in various towns throughout the Black Country, with attendance anticipated to be in the hundreds. Wolverhampton previously hosted its illumination ceremony, drawing over 10,000 individuals, according to the council. Wednesfield’s corresponding event is set for High Street on Thursday. Father Christmas and the Mayor of Wolverhampton officiated the ceremony, as stated by the council, which also mentioned performances by local artists and Wolverhampton’s Dicky Dodd. Additional festive illumination events are slated for Bilston on Friday, Tettenhall on Saturday, and Bantock House Museum located on Finchfield Road on Sunday. Each of these gatherings commences at 16:30 GMT, with the illumination of lights occurring at 18:30 GMT. An Elton John tribute performer is scheduled to entertain attendees at Bilston, coinciding with the council’s ongoing consultation regarding enhancements. The celebration held in Wolverhampton’s city centre featured a funfair, live reindeer, face painting services, and refreshments. Entertainment was provided by the Grinch and Cindy Lou, preceding performances by X Factor and musical theatre personality Niki Colwell Evans and Jake Nelson Music. Councillor Chris Burden commented: “The Christmas lights switch ons are always a favourite with our residents, as it signals the start of the festive period for a lot of families.” A Santa’s Grotto will be established within the Mander Centre, operating from 30 November through 23 December. Additionally, the Wolverhampton Christmas Market will be situated on Dudley Street from 13 to 19 December, offering crafts, unique items, budget-friendly stocking fillers, and toys. Paycare, a not-for-profit Health Cash Plan provider headquartered in Wolverhampton, serves as the primary sponsor for all five festive light events.
