Scottie Scheffler has equaled Tiger Woods as only the second individual to secure the PGA Tour player of the year award for three consecutive seasons. The top-ranked American golfer received his third Jack Nicklaus Award, having garnered 91% of the votes from his peers. Throughout the season, Scheffler claimed seven victories, notably his second Masters title at Augusta National in April. Although Rory McIlroy has been honored with the award three times, only Scheffler and Woods have achieved the feat of winning it three consecutive times. Following the reception of the award, the 28-year-old Scheffler remarked, “I think we’re always looking to compare somebody to Tiger Woods.” He further added, “I saw it a lot growing up but there’s really only one Tiger – that’s just kind of it.” Scheffler’s achievement of seven titles in a single season marks the first time a player has done so since Woods in 2007. Woods, aged 48, has accumulated 11 career awards, including a streak of five consecutive wins from 1999 to 2003, followed by another three consecutive awards from 2005 to 2007. Despite the Masters win being a significant achievement, Scheffler indicated that his top performance was during his gold medal triumph at the Paris Olympics. The Texan stated, “I would say the nine holes that kind of sticks out to me the most maybe would be the back nine at the Olympics.” He further commented, “The way that Teddy (caddie Teddy Scott) and I kind of finished off that tournament was pretty cool.”
