Over 100 scooter owners participated in a Remembrance ride, placing wreaths across West Yorkshire. The Kinsley Drifters Scooter Club, joined by riders from Pontefract and Kippax, laid poppy wreaths on Saturday. The journey commenced in South Elmsall and concluded in Ackworth. Leanne Fenson expressed that she was “honoured” to take part. She added: “We do it every year and we never forget, ever. A lot of people lost their lives, a lot of young men and women.” The procession began at the Barnsley Oak in South Elmsall with approximately 60 riders, with additional participants joining them along the route. They visited eight war memorials and a memorial garden, subsequently observing a minute’s silence near the Boot and Shoe pub in Ackworth. Wayne Marshall, one of the organisers, stated that the annual ride was open to anyone with a scooter. He remarked: “Today is our day to show respect to the fallen heroes. Tomorrow, a lot of people will doing their own parades.” Steven Fenson, who also assisted in organising the event, explained that Saturday was chosen for the activity instead of Remembrance Sunday to allow other parades to occur in quiet. He stated: “We do the Saturday because of the noise and the amount of people, so we leave it to them to organise a proper Remembrance Day march on Sundays and we do our own thing.” Post navigation Residents’ frustration over three-week mail delay Artist Addresses Controversy Regarding ‘Poo-Shaped’ Sculpture
