A school has provided a donation of £1,700 to assist with the redevelopment of a children’s garden at a hospital in Wolverhampton. This amount was generated through a raffle conducted at the annual summer ball held at Birchfield School in Albrighton. The funds are designated for the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT) Charity’s £30,000 fundraising initiative, which aims to enhance the children’s ward garden at New Cross Hospital. Kirsty Lewis, the RWT’s senior matron for acute children’s services, commented: “This will really help in our quest to give children a place to play and relax at an otherwise stressful time for them.” The planned garden improvements will incorporate upgraded sensory features, such as a walk-through area with paths sufficiently wide for wheelchairs and beds, new lighting installations, and a cinema projection space, enabling children to view films outdoors. Penny Simkin, chair of the Friends of Birchfield School group, which made the donation, stated: “We are so pleased to support the development of the garden at New Cross which will hopefully provide an outside sanctuary for children to play and also a place of reflection for parents.” For additional content, follow BBC Wolverhampton & Black Country on BBC Sounds, Facebook, X, and Instagram.
