A musical performance by school children from the UK and internationally has received a sustainability-focused music award. The “Sing to Change” project brought together students from Lincolnshire and Massachusetts to perform a song addressing climate change. The event involved approximately 1,500 children from 14 schools situated near Boston, Lincolnshire, and Boston, Massachusetts. Lincolnshire Music Service, which organized the program in conjunction with The Come and Sing Company and Scruffy Bear Media, was awarded the Music Mark This Is Not A Rehearsal Sustainability Award 2024. The children performed a track by singer-songwriter Dane Myers and created a music video. Sally Massey, assistant executive headteacher at Westmere Primary in Sutton Bridge, noted that the video’s release fostered a sense of pride and self-worth among the students. “Sing to Change was a fantastic opportunity to offer our pupils the chance to participate in a powerful and meaningful music-making experience.” She added, “It gave our children hope of doing something to raise awareness of saving our oceans and our world, as well as providing a sense of awe that they were connecting with children from around the world.” The initiative’s future plans include focusing on food scarcity, poverty, sustainable agriculture, and biodiversity loss.
