The States of Guernsey has confirmed that a playground will be closed for a period of four days, starting November 12, as a safety measure for the felling of a large pine tree. The site at Saumarez Park is being closed because the tree has reached an age where it is prone to dropping branches. A States spokesperson additionally stated that there are indications of other structural problems with the tree or that it may be diseased, a condition verified by a local arborist. The planned work is scheduled to occur during the week to ensure the playground can be reopened for the weekend, provided weather conditions permit. The States spokesperson also confirmed that only individuals working at St John’s Residential Home will be permitted to use the car park located next to the playground. Visitors to St John’s will still be able to access the home, but anyone driving there will be required to park in the rear car park off Ruette des Saumarez.
