The Sandbanks chain ferry, named Bramble Bush Bay, has ceased operations for a two-week period to undergo a refit. This vessel typically provides crossings between Sandbanks and Shell Bay, operating daily with two trips per hour in each direction. The Bournemouth-Swanage Motor Road and Ferry Company announced that, subject to weather conditions, the refit is scheduled to take place between November 5 and 20. Having commenced service three decades ago, the ferry completes its crossing in approximately four minutes, offering motorists an alternative to a 25-mile (40km) road journey.
