The Salvation Army has issued an appeal for donations to its Christmas Present Appeal, following a twofold increase in requests for assistance from families facing financial hardship this year. In Watford, the Christian church and charity provided gifts for 194 children last year who would not have received presents on Christmas Day. This year, the organization has already received requests to assist 380 children. Meanwhile, in Luton, volunteers are engaged in wrapping and organizing approximately 1,500 donated presents intended for families who may also be experiencing difficulties providing meals this Christmas. Captain Mark Scoulding, the leader of The Salvation Army in Watford, stated that the rate of donations has been slower than anticipated, potentially leaving hundreds of children without gifts to open on December 25. He remarked: “This year we know many people who donated a gift last year will instead need our help this Christmas. “The need is unprecedented but so far donations are falling short.”We’re urgently appealing to everyone – individuals, businesses and organisations – to help us meet this incredible demand. “Christmas is a time for joy and giving and no child should feel forgotten.” Captain Scoulding expressed confidence that with community assistance, they could guarantee that each of the 380 children would awaken to a special gift on Christmas morning.
