The Salford Red Devils, who have been based at the Salford Community Stadium since 2012, have convened a meeting with all Super League clubs. The purpose is to seek an early release of funds allocated for the 2025 season, intended to address current financial shortfalls. According to the club, these financial difficulties stem from uncertainty regarding the ownership of the Salford Community Stadium, which has hindered the Red Devils’ ability to secure sponsorships and commercial deals. A vote involving all league clubs will determine if Salford receives these funds, with a follow-up meeting scheduled for Monday to finalize the decision. Paul King, Salford’s chief executive officer, stated, “We’re grateful that our fellow clubs are considering our request and we are hopeful for a positive outcome on Monday.” Despite finishing fourth in the 2024 Super League season, the Red Devils were ranked 12th in media giant IMG’s grading system for the upcoming season. These ratings assess five distinct areas: on-field performance, financial stability, community engagement, fan base, and stadium facilities. The club’s current financial situation emerges only two months after Salford City Council declared its intention to acquire full ownership of the Salford Community Stadium by purchasing The Peel Group’s 50% stake. This development followed Salford’s agreement to a 12-month extension of their stadium lease for the facility they share with the Premiership rugby team, Sale Sharks. A dispute concerning the eventual acquisition of the stadium prompted the Salford Red Devils to assert in late 2023 that their existence was jeopardized. Notwithstanding these challenges, the club demonstrated notable on-field consistency under the guidance of head coach Paul Rowley, securing a spot in the end-of-season play-offs with ease.
