Television personality Rylan Clark has cautioned viewers of the program I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! against making disparaging remarks regarding the physical appearance of contestant Tulisa Contostavlos. With the launch of the new series on Sunday, Clark expressed support for the singer’s potential success on the program, posting her image online. He further stated, “Also before people start going for appearance, Tulisa has been through a lot health wise the last few years so let’s not make [bad] jokes about her on twitter yeah.” The N-Dubz member, aged 36, recently disclosed to Olivia Attwood, host of the So Wrong It’s Right podcast, that she had utilized “fillers” in her face to “balance out the symmetry” following a diagnosis of Bell’s palsy. Bell’s palsy is a form of paralysis that temporarily impairs the capacity to regulate facial muscles. Tulisa is participating in the celebrity jungle environment with other personalities such as Coleen Rooney, McFly’s Danny Jones, and Maura Higgins from Love Island. During the program’s premiere on Sunday, certain disparaging remarks circulated on social media, indicating that her appearance had noticeably changed compared to several years prior. In 2012, Tulisa served as a judge on The X Factor, the same year Rylan placed fourth as a participant. She informed Attwood that she had not undergone “any surgery until recently… only fillers,” despite opposing speculation in the media. She explained that she began receiving injectables after Bell’s palsy, several years ago, caused her face to become inflamed and swollen, leading her to withdraw socially. She stated, “I had a massive burst of inflammation and it went down but my whole face dropped. I couldn’t move it, my face remained like that for seven months, I didn’t go out, I just hid in the house.” She further commented, “That was very stressful and my face still wasn’t right so I started getting fillers to balance out the symmetry.” She characterized the endeavor to regain facial symmetry as a “vicious cycle.” Tulisa informed Attwood that an ultrasound earlier this year revealed “three chronically infected cysts” in her cheek, some of which were surgically removed. She clarified that the cysts’ presence was unrelated to the filler and that she was awaiting further surgery to extract any residual material. The British vocalist initially gained prominence as a member of the hip-hop group N-Dubz during the 2000s. Subsequently, the London-born artist pursued a solo career, releasing successful tracks such as Young and Sight of You, and served as a judge on The X Factor in both 2011 and 2012. Her former band reunited for a tour in 2022, coinciding with the period when she was experiencing the persistent health issues she has recently discussed. Upon her announcement as a contestant on I’m a Celeb, she expressed that the program would offer an opportunity for the public to discover the “real” her, stating: “I am not the person that people perceived me to be.” The program commenced in Australia on Sunday evening, with presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly assuring that Tulisa, Coleen Rooney, and others would be “thrown in the deep end.” Referencing Rooney’s prominent libel case against Rebekah Vardy and the show’s Bushtucker trials, Donnelly quipped: “It will be nice for Coleen to face a trial that doesn’t involve Rebekah Vardy.” To establish the sequence for skydiving from helicopters, the celebrities were instructed to consume cocktails composed of blended bull penis and fish eyes, garnished with vomit fruit. Tulisa subsequently received an exemption from the initial trial, having been designated as one of the inaugural camp leaders for triumphing in a paired, river-based competition on the opening night.
