The maternity department at a hospital has achieved a high evaluation for its patient care, according to a national survey conducted by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). The findings indicated that individuals who gave birth at the Royal United Hospitals Bath (RUH) maternity team reported feeling confidence and trust in the staff throughout their care. Zita Martinez, the Director of Midwifery, expressed that she was “thrilled” by the “fantastic” feedback received from those under their care. The 2024 National Maternity Survey gathered insights into the experiences of individuals who delivered babies in February of this year. The survey encompassed inquiries regarding antenatal care, labour, birth, and post-natal care, as well as the level of attention provided during labour and birth. Among the feedback, commendation was given for the dignity and respect with which patients were treated. Ms Martinez stated: “I am thrilled to receive this fantastic feedback from the people we care for, [which is] a reflection of the hard work and commitment from all our maternity staff.” She further commented that “everyone matters” at the hospital, making it “great to see how women and birthing people felt they were treated with dignity and respect”. Despite the excellent results, she noted that the team intends to continue exploring avenues for further enhancing maternity care. Earlier in the year, the RUH’s maternity team maintained its outstanding rating from the CQC, positioning it among the top 3% of maternity departments across England.
