A roofer, who undertook the repair of an animal rescue shelter’s barn roof without charge, stated his motivation stemmed from an encounter with a staff member in a hospital. This worker was described as being “in agony, but was more concerned for her animals”. The staff at Coppershell Animal rescue, situated in Gastard, Wiltshire, faced difficulties in securing the £20,000 required to replace their barn’s leaking roof. Matt A’Court, representing the sanctuary, expressed that he was “extremely grateful” for the assistance provided. Stuart Weston commented that contributing his labor and procuring materials without cost “seemed the right thing to do”. “I don’t normally do this. I met the shelter’s trustee Genna at the Royal United Hospital in Bath when my wife was rushed to hospital earlier this year,” he stated. “She mentioned the barn roof needed fixing. She was in agony, but was more concerned about the animals than herself.” Mr. Weston indicated that the process of removing the existing roof and fitting the new panels on the barn required a week for completion. “I’ve got a thing about Karma, I believe if you do something right for people it’ll come back to you.” “I once won £55,000 on a football bet after helping an old lady across the road.” Since completing the repair, Mr. Weston has returned to visit the animal shelter three times and anticipates maintaining a friendship with the team “for a long time”. Mr. A’Court stated that the repair project was something the shelter “would never have been able to do” independently. “Or it would have taken us a long time to have raised that amount of money. “It was a massive £20,000 job. All the animals really appreciated it,” he added. For further updates, follow BBC Wiltshire on Facebook, X and Instagram. Story ideas can be submitted via email or WhatsApp at 0800 313 4630.
