Numerous households residing on a single street have adorned their residences with festive Christmas decorations, aiming to generate funds for a charitable cause. Approximately 80 inhabitants of Wrenbury Drive in Rochdale are currently making preparations for the street’s dedicated Christmas lights activation event scheduled for later today. Annually, thousands of individuals journey to this thoroughfare to observe the extensive illuminations, which encompass both the houses and their surrounding gardens. QR codes have been placed along the road, enabling visitors to contribute financially to the adjacent Springhill Hospice. Peter Marr, a resident of the street, indicated that this initiative has been ongoing for 25 years. He remarked, “It’s snowballed over the years and it was absolutely packed last year with families – it was like a football match and the hospice is a wonderful cause.” In response to an inquiry from BBC Radio Manchester regarding his electricity expenditures, Mr. Marr stated he “daren’t look” but further commented: “Fortunately, they’re all LEDs nowadays so you’re not burning as much electricity as you would’ve done a few years ago.” The families residing on this street within the Burnedge area are scheduled to synchronize the activation of their Christmas lights at 17:00 GMT. The fundraising effort organized by the residents generated nearly £2,500 during the previous year. Springhill Hospice, established in 1989, operates with 16 beds, offering palliative care to patients throughout their journey from diagnosis until the end of their lives.
