Rob Staton of BBC Radio Sheffield has provided insights regarding what Southampton might anticipate should they appoint Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl as the successor to the dismissed Russell Martin at St Mary’s. Despite noting that discussions are “very quiet at the moment,” Staton informed BBC Radio Solent that Rohl “wants to manage in the Premier League. He is a very ambitious manager.” Staton further explained that Rohl is aware Southampton Football Club possesses the infrastructure of a Premier League team, a characteristic Sheffield Wednesday lacks, making the opportunity “very appealing.” Conversely, Rohl has achieved remarkable success at Sheffield Wednesday, a performance deemed a “miracle” last season. This year, guiding the team to ninth position, five points shy of the [Championship] play-offs, is regarded as “pretty much a minor miracle.” Rohl exhibits considerable flexibility. He selects his team from the available players and is prepared to make adjustments. “There was a period last season when Wednesday were trying to play out from the back. That led to a few issues so he changed it and they got some good results.” He is not committed to a singular playing style, being described as “very much a student of the game and very data driven.” He chooses a team and a strategy he believes will be effective for winning, subsequently dedicating extensive effort to prepare his squad.
