On Christmas Day, a restaurant will open its doors to provide complimentary meals to individuals experiencing homelessness. This initiative, coordinated by the Oxford Homeless Project, a Muslim community organization, is scheduled to occur at a restaurant situated on Cowley Road within the city. Shabnam Sabir, representing the group, stated that contributions received would fund the meal’s expenses and also facilitate the provision of Christmas gifts for those attending. Housing charity Shelter estimates that approximately 350,000 individuals throughout the UK are expected to be without stable housing during the Christmas season. Via a Facebook post, Ms. Sabir explained her decision to arrange the dinner stemmed from a conversation with a man who regularly participates in the community meals her group organizes on Wednesdays. “He said he won’t go where he doesn’t know the people,” she said. “With all the options on Christmas Day I thought it was silly to organise a meal but clearly I was wrong.” Ms. Sabir reported that 12 individuals are currently confirmed to attend the dinner at the restaurant. Numerous individuals commenting on the post inquired about donation methods or ways to offer assistance.
