Two individuals were transported to the hospital after a woman entered a restaurant and assaulted them with a glass. Sussex Police stated that witnesses reported seeing “a woman in distress” enter Smith & Western in East Street, Horsham, at approximately 20:00 GMT on Friday. The force indicated that a male employee sustained injuries to his arm and face, while a female member of staff suffered facial injuries. A 36-year-old woman from Brighton has been arrested on suspicion of two counts of causing grievous bodily harm and is currently being held in custody. The BBC has approached Smith & Western for comment. The attacks were observed by an off-duty police officer who had been dining with her family at the time. Sussex Police said she acted swiftly to detain the woman and call for assistance. Detective Superintendent Andy Wolstenholme stated: “This was a hugely distressing incident witnessed by numerous people, including families with young children.” He commended the actions of the off-duty officer, noting that she helped to administer first aid. He added, “Officers are never truly off-duty in their communities, and in this instance the officer went towards danger without a second thought.” Sussex Police has appealed for witnesses to come forward.
