A proposal has been submitted to transform a disused former police station into a residential complex comprising flats and houses. Located in Rushden, the run-down property was acquired in 2019. Three years subsequent to its sale, North Northamptonshire Council (NNC) had given its consent for the site’s demolition to construct five three-storey townhouses. The most recent scheme now proposes the construction of a three-storey apartment building at the front of the existing structure, alongside the addition of two two-bedroom residences at the rear. Harea Homes (AHH), the applicants, stated that razing the “decaying” structure would eliminate a potential refuge for criminals or squatters. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, AHH characterized the building as an “eyesore due to its decay”. The new development, it was confirmed, will feature 15 on-site parking spaces designated for shared use among seven one-bedroom flats, four two-bedroom flats, and two houses. NNC validated the application at the close of October, initiating a consultation period set to conclude on 28 November.
