A dwelling near Sidmouth, in Devon, now stands precariously close to the brink of a deteriorating cliff face, a direct result of substantial rockfall along the Jurassic Coast. This property is currently situated merely 40ft (12m) from a 400ft (121m) drop. Images captured from above demonstrate that extensive portions of the cliffs, widely recognized for their fossils, have collapsed. Concurrently, several tonnes of debris descended near Jacob’s Ladder, leading the East Devon District Council to issue a public appeal via social media, advising individuals to keep away from the cliffs. The council stated these areas are “prone to rock falls, and landslides, which can happen at any time”. “We’d like to remind visitors to keep their distance from cliffs along the East Devon coastline,” the council communicated. It reiterated that “Cliff falls are a natural and unpredictable occurrence along the East Devon coast.” The South West Coastal Path had previously been closed on 25 October, following an earlier cliff fall. Drone photographer James Loveridge disseminated photographs on social media, illustrating the dramatic rockfall that occurred between Sidmouth and Ladram Bay.
