Following the rescue of a woman and her dog from a bog near Bradgate Park, advice has been issued against venturing into the countryside unprepared. Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service was called to assist the woman and her dog, who had become stuck in thick mud. The woman, who had sunk up to her knees in Swithland Woods alongside her doberman, contacted emergency services at approximately 08:20 GMT on Tuesday. Crews from Leicester’s Western and Southern stations, collaborating with Bradgate Park rangers, successfully freed the pair and brought them to safety using an inflatable pathway. This incident has prompted the brigade to issue a warning, emphasizing the importance of leaving home prepared for potential difficulties. A spokesperson stated that individuals should ensure their mobile phones are charged to enable calls for help and should install the what3words app to provide an exact location to emergency services. The service further advised that anyone exploring rural areas should wear warm and waterproof clothing, and if they encounter a person or animal in distress, they should raise the alarm immediately. A spokesperson concluded by stating: “Stay safe while enjoying nature.” For updates, follow BBC Leicester on Facebook, X, or Instagram.
