BBC Scotland senior reporter Andy Burke recently addressed inquiries regarding Scottish rugby, including a question from Peter concerning Hamish Watson’s consistent non-selection and its implications for his career. In response, Burke stated, “I am a little puzzled by the continued omission of Watson from the Edinburgh side at the moment.” He further commented that while it might be fair to suggest Watson’s peak performance years are past, he believes the player retains valuable contributions. Despite Sean Everitt confirming Watson is not injured, the 33-year-old was once more excluded from the squad for Friday night’s match against Bayonne, even following Freddy Douglas’s injury sustained last week against Gloucester. Burke acknowledged the necessity of providing playing opportunities for younger talents in Edinburgh’s back row but expressed a personal view that the seasoned experience of a Scotland and Lions international like Watson would be beneficial as the club competes on multiple fronts. Regarding the prospect of his career concluding, Burke remarked that it is uncertain, but it appears his tenure with Edinburgh might be nearing its conclusion.
