Approximately 50 residences in Jersey were evacuated on Saturday evening following reports of a gas leak. Emergency personnel responded to the location at Le Clos Mourant, situated on Le Squez Road in St Clement. Engineers from Island Energy identified and released a gas accumulation within a service duct, subsequently locating and repairing the source of the leak. Residents have now been cleared to re-enter their homes, as engineers confirmed the absence of gas readings within the properties for a continuous period of four hours. Andium Homes, a social housing provider, stated that its properties at Le Clos Mourant are newly constructed and have never been equipped with gas connections. Affected residents received care at a nearby local community centre before being accommodated in hotels for the night. The Jersey Fire and Rescue Service announced on its Facebook page: “The residual gas pockets have been purged with clean air and no longer pose a risk.” Island Energy engineers are scheduled to stay at the site to continue monitoring gas levels over the coming days, ensuring that no additional risks emerge.
