Measures are scheduled to be implemented to counteract ongoing erosion along a river’s banks. Cumberland Council plans to undertake repair work specifically along the River Caldew, in the vicinity of Sheepmount Bridge within Carlisle. Local traffic is expected to experience disruptions for approximately four weeks, commencing Monday, November 25, during the execution of this project. According to the council, these protective interventions are essential to halt additional erosion and to ensure continued public access to the location. Operations will be conducted on weekdays, from 08:00 to 17:00 GMT. The scope of work includes the delivery of rocks to the site, the erection of temporary fencing, conducting bat surveys, and tree pruning performed by specialist arborists. While traffic management protocols will be implemented on Mayor’s Drive, pedestrian and cycle pathways will remain undisturbed. Nevertheless, the Sheepmount car park will be inaccessible throughout the project’s duration, as it will serve as a staging area for the contractor.
