A hospital volunteer has been commemorated one year after his death while on shift. A remembrance tree was dedicated in honor of Paul Watts, who dedicated a decade of service as a volunteer at Peterborough City Hospital and the Cancer Wellbeing Service. The volunteer team observed the anniversary by dedicating a potted acer tree, which is slated for placement in a newly renovated staff reflection garden. Carol North, the Head of Volunteering, stated: “Paul was one of the few volunteers that contributed hundreds of hours when we needed it most.” A ceremony to honor Mr. Watts’ contributions was attended by hospital volunteers and members of his family. Volunteers highlighted his crucial role in staffing the vaccination clinics for staff during the Covid pandemic and beyond, ensuring their efficient operation. Ms. North commented: “We remember Paul as a cheeky chap who always looked ahead, helped wherever he could; always with a sense of humour and loads of heart.” She added that the team deeply misses him, stating: “The team misses him greatly, and this is a fitting and lasting tribute to Paul where his friends can come and sit in quiet reflection to remember him.” The tree will become a component of the new staff garden, which is currently undergoing a £40,000 renovation.
