Leicestershire and Rutland are preparing to commemorate those who have died in conflict and honor military personnel who have served. Commemorative services are scheduled throughout both counties for Remembrance Day and Armistice Day. The Local Democracy Reporting Service has assembled a comprehensive list of these local events. Key services and parades are presented alphabetically by location. Coalville On Sunday, a parade will commence from Christ Church at 10:40 GMB, proceeding along Hotel Street and High Street to Memorial Square for a service featuring a two-minute silence and wreath-laying ceremony. Poppy petals are scheduled for release from the Clock Tower during this period of silence. An Armistice Day Service is planned for Monday at 11:00 at the War Memorial. Glenfield County Hall will host an Armistice Day service on Monday. This service will commence at the Stand Easy memorial at 10:40, including a wreath-laying and a two-minute silence observed at 11:00. Hinckley Hinckley’s Remembrance Sunday service is scheduled for 10:55 at the Argents Mead war memorial. The initial parade will depart from Mount Road Hospital car park around 10:35, with a subsequent parade to follow the service. Leicester On Sunday, a service will be conducted at the war memorial located in Victoria Park. A parade, spearheaded by the Seaforth Highlanders Pipes, is set to depart De Montfort Hall at approximately 10:40, arriving at the Arch of Remembrance by 10:55. The Last Post will be sounded by a bugler, preceding the firing of salutes that will initiate a two-minute silence. A return parade will proceed from the War Memorial, rejoining Centenary Walk towards De Montfort Hall around 11:45. Loughborough On Sunday, the parade will begin at the Market Place at 10:20, moving through the town centre to the Carillon Tower in Queen’s Park, where a service will commence at 10:50. Armistice Day commemorations on Monday will include a service at 10:50 at the Carillon Tower. The Last Post will be played, followed by the observance of a two-minute silence at 11:00. Lutterworth On Sunday, the parade will set off from the Wycliffe Rooms at 10:30, reaching the Memorial Gardens around 10:45 for the service. Market Harborough A Service of Remembrance is scheduled for 10:00 on Sunday at St Dionysius Church. This will be followed by a parade at approximately 10:40, proceeding along the High Street to the war memorial, where the Act of Remembrance and a two-minute silence will occur at 11:00. On Monday at 10:45, a Service of Remembrance will be held at the war memorial, featuring a two-minute silence at 11:00, marked by firework blasts at its beginning and end. Melton Mowbray On Sunday, a parade will commence from Chapel Street car park at 10:20, proceeding to St Mary’s Parish Church for a service beginning at 10:50. A second parade is scheduled to start around 11:50 in Burton Street, heading to the War Memorial Gardens for a wreath-laying ceremony. Oadby On Sunday, the parade will begin at 14:00 from Sandhurst Street car park, proceeding to St Peter’s Church for a service. Oakham A parade will proceed to the church on Sunday for the Rutland Service of Remembrance, starting at 14:00. On Monday at 10:45, Oakham Castle will host a Service of Remembrance, including a minute’s silence at 11:00. Shepshed On Sunday, the parade will commence at 14:00 on Field Street. South Wigston A Remembrance Service is scheduled for St Thomas the Apostle Church in South Wigston from 10:00 on Sunday, with the Act of Remembrance taking place at the War Memorial on Blaby Road at 10:55. Syston On Sunday, the parade will begin at 10:30 on Melton Road. A service at the memorial, which will include the laying of wreaths, is set for 11:00, after which the parade will return to Melton Road. A church service will be conducted at St Peter and St Paul’s Church around 11:30. Wigston On Sunday, the parade will commence at 10:30am from Elizabeth Court, proceeding to All Saints’ Church, where a Remembrance Service will follow.
