Two reindeer, named Michael and Mistletoe, delivered Christmas cheer to residents at a hospice. They made a surprise visit to Ashgate Hospice in Old Brampton, near Chesterfield, on Friday. The reindeer received attention and food while interacting with staff members, residents, and their families. Jean Meaker, an 83-year-old resident from Buxton in Derbyshire, who has cancer and was admitted to the hospice earlier in December, stated that the experience had “made her day.” She commented, “It was fantastic.” Meaker added, “My heart was beating. It’s not just children that get excited. It’s made me feel more Christmassy because I had been feeling a bit low. I don’t think I’ve ever stroked a reindeer before, and it’s made my day. They were beautiful and very well behaved.” The reindeer, part of a small herd residing in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, were brought to the hospice by the Phoenix Children’s Foundation charity. Karen Walker, the ward manager at the hospice, stated: “Christmas can be a difficult time for many of the families we care for, so we always do everything we can to go above and beyond to make it extra special for them if we can. Animals always play a crucial role in providing comfort and emotional support to our patients at the hospice, and can help reduce feelings of anxiety and stress.” Post navigation Football League for Homeless Individuals Offers Structure and Community Free Vaping Cessation Support Launched for Teenagers
