The registration period has commenced for the yearly 85-mile (137km) event on the Isle of Man, where participants are required to make contact with the entrances of all 17 parish churches. This yearly event, known as the Parish Walk, mandates that participants finish the course within 24 hours. It is scheduled for 21 June next year, and registrations will be accepted until 4 May. The current year’s iteration of the event attracted nearly 1,100 individuals, with Dean Morgan securing victory in slightly more than fifteen-and-a-half hours. According to race organiser Raymond Cox, given that many individuals are contemplating personal objectives as the new year approaches, early registration would provide “plenty of time to prepare and train.” The fastest recorded completion time for this event is 14 hours 40 minutes, established by Richard Gerrard in 2015. The event originated around the beginning of the 20th Century, initially conceived as a contest to determine which individual could cover the greatest distance on foot. While the inaugural organised walk occurred in 1913, a defined course for the competition was not established until the 1960s.
