Cassius, recognized as the world’s largest crocodile living in captivity, has passed away at an Australian wildlife sanctuary. This saltwater crocodile measured close to 5.5 meters (18 feet) in length and weighed approximately one tonne. Its age was estimated to be at least 110 years, though this figure remained unconfirmed. This immense saltwater crocodile had resided at the sanctuary, situated on an island near the Queensland coast, since its capture in Australia’s Northern Territory during the 1980s. In 2011, Cassius received the Guinness World Record designation for being the largest crocodile held in captivity. Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Habitat announced on social media that Cassius was “our beloved mate” and “a cherished member of our family.” Prior to its capture, Cassius had inhabited the wild, where it gained a reputation for preying on cattle and damaging boat propellers. According to a report by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, George Craig, the founder of the habitat, acquired Cassius in 1987. The habitat stated that Cassius “brought joy and companionship to his best mate George for over 37 years.” Furthermore, the habitat mentioned that Mr. Craig moved to Cairns last month, and Cassius’s health subsequently deteriorated. The social media post indicated, “He was very old and believed to be living beyond the years of a wild croc.” The habitat also extended gratitude to “everyone who visited Cassius throughout his life and offered kindness,” noting that the facility might operate “in a limited capacity over the next few days.” Post navigation Reuse Village Transforms Unwanted Items into Christmas Presents One Year After Floods, Ryde Awaits Government Grant Payments
