Sally-Anne Long, who resides in Reading, Berkshire, provides a service to families by decorating their Christmas trees with baubles and lights within their homes. She indicated that the demand for this service is substantial. Ms. Long shared her motivation, stating, “I used to work as a receptionist and I’d watch these companies come in, charging more than a thousand quid to decorate a 15ft Christmas tree… I thought I could do a better job.” The 39-year-old entrepreneur initiated her business after observing a decrease in her professional decluttering work during the festive season. She mentioned that many individuals perceive the task of decorating for the holidays as an “overwhelming” undertaking. Her earnings range from £90 to £120, contingent on the size of the Christmas tree. She recounted, “I recently did a 7ft one that took me three hours because I spent an hour fluffing it up and making it look perfect.” She further described the result, saying, “It was very grand, quite opulent and all the decorations were traditional golds, silvers and reds.” Additionally, her offerings extend to arranging Christmas tablescapes within clients’ dining rooms. Ms. Long expressed that her most cherished aspect of the profession is witnessing clients’ reactions after she has converted their living rooms into a festive winter wonderland. She commented, “I love seeing them happy, if I didn’t get that I’d probably just tear it all down and start again.” Previously, Ms. Long worked as a visual merchandiser for several years, a role that entailed arranging displays in department store windows. She remarked, “I think they like the idea of someone who knows what they’re doing.” Following the conclusion of the festive season in January, she also provides a service for dismantling and storing the decorations. She explained, “It’s nowhere near as fun, taking it down, and I just think people can’t be bothered to do it themselves.” She elaborated, “You end up with all these tangled lights and that’s where I come in because I like things done in a strategic way.” For further updates, BBC Berkshire can be followed on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), or Instagram.
